At the onset of the COVID pandemic -- early March, 2020 -- the bar below my apartment was still serving people in their alleyway patio. In the midst of all the confusion and uncertainty, I found the chatter of bar patrons comforting. So I dangled a microphone out of my fifth-story window on two occasions, recorded the crowd sounds, then added multiple layers of improvised instruments -- each part sharing a common modal framework but otherwise unrelated and un-referenced to each other.

My intention is for the listener to play this piece through stereo speakers at a mid to low volume while carrying on as close to normally as possible. If you must listen to it via headphones, ok, but keep the volume low. It sounds best as moving air in a space, however.

The bar patio is still open, and I still love hearing the sounds of people having fun drift up to my window...but I don't drink there right now.
